Wobbling and Hobbling
2007 is not starting well. Last Sunday I fell down the stairs and did something horrible to my knee (also sprained my ankle and scared the bejesus out of the 2 old ladies in the house). If you don't want the gory details, skip the rest of this post.
I had been feeling really good, strong after my 20-minutes-to-fitness session on Saturday. I had excess energy and was going up and down the stairs with ease. Except the last time, of course, when I had my hands full, was not holding onto the railing, and must have slipped on my socks. All I know is I ended up grabbing the railing and landing with my "good" knee bent at an extremely unnatural angle. At this point, I'm cold sweating and the room is trying to recede. Unfortunately, I have to straighten that leg in order to get down the rest of the stairs -- excruciating and then some!!! More cold sweat and spots in front of my eyes. The knee joint was extremely wobbly but I made it to the couch where I applied ice and elevated it.
Now I'm hobbling around with the knee and ankle wrapped, using a walker and a cane, and waiting to get in to see a knee joint specialist. Want more info? Here's a link to a good article:
BUPA (British) Health Information
Now I've got 2 bad knees and I'm quite sure the doctor will say, once again, that strengthening the muscles around the knee is the only thing that will help. Bummer, bummer, bummer!
2007 can only get better, right?
