Father of the Bomb

In a very interesting and moving book, Oh Pure and Radiant Heart, by Lydia Millet, we meet Robert Oppenheimer, "father of the bomb", as he looks upon the 21st century world that has arisen, in large part, because of his work. We read incredulous statements about nuclear tests and massive storage and peace rallies which are undoubtedly true. Oppenheimer is revered by some as God and to that he says, "we are not gods, but we are something else. We are the end of man. ... We have the power of gods but we do not have the wisdom. This is our tragedy." (p.461)

Words made flesh every day...

Bush spoke last night...
